“You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:3-6, 17, 18 NIV)
Paul was writing to the Corinthian church reminding them of the message that was preached to them, the message they received and now the message they are preaching. Our preaching is not just done in the pulpit, but in our daily lives and he is reminding them of this…this message of Christ is not just written in ink on a stone, but it is written on the tablet of our hearts. As a man thinks in his heart so is he and out of the abundance of the heart a man speaks. What is in our hearts we will live out.
Leadership and ministry should be an overflow of our relationship with Christ…I believe the motive of why we do what we do is the basis of success and the longevity. When we are confident in the message of Christ at work within us, we are able to allow His love to flow through us into others and to train up disciples for the kingdom of heaven. Life style is important, because people are watching. But if we are only focusing on behavior modification the heart motive is not in the right place. Teaching people who they are in Christ will empower people to live right …. Because right believing creates right living. Not right living creates right believing. We must always focus on the heart, because everything flows from the heart as proverbs talks about.
A person in leadership must be a person of character and that means we are people of honor, integrity, purity, self control, love, patient, kind, trustworthy, and we have a strong relationship with The Lord ourself. But these are developed over time and they are developed the more we find out who we are IN HIM.
Teaching new believers who they are in Christ will raise the condition of their heart, because when people know who they are they automatically live righteously because that is who they are. Our righteousness, justification, peace with God and holiness has nothing to do with our works but our position in Christ…people watch our lifestyle, but it is God who judges the motivation of the heart. If we are only teaching people they have to lineup their life according to the law then we are disqualifying what Jesus did on the cross and making it of no effect! Our life represents what we believe and if we truly believe that we are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus then we will live as so. We will make mistakes because we are people, but that does not change our spiritual position because we have already been declared righteous because of the blood of Jesus.
Another definition of the “glory of God” means Gods view and opinion of mankind. The Mosaic law showed mankind that they were sinful, that they were not in right standing with God, that God was not pleased with them, that they were judged according to their life style, but Jesus came and fulfilled the works of the law. Because of Him Gods view and opinion of man kind has changed when we receive the Spirit of the Living God inside of us…this means we are now declared righteous, we are holy, sanctified, blameless and so much more because we are now hidden in Christ in God. God is pleased with Jesus and therefore He is pleased with us. We develop our confidence in who we are in Him the more we focus on his love for us and who we are in Him, not whether we are doing the right thing all the time!! Our lives go in the direction of our most dominant thought, so lets keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, find out who He is so we can be confident in who we are!! The above scripture states that where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom….and in another it states you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free… We have to have knowledge of the truth to walk in the freedom Jesus provided!
