Scripture: Acts 12:4-7; 13-16
4 And when he had seized [Peter], he put him in prison and delivered him to four squads of soldiers of four each to guard him, purposing after the Passover to bring him forth to the people.
5 So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent prayer for him was persistently made to God by the church (assembly).
6 The very night before Herod was about to bring him forth, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, fastened with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison.
7 And suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared [standing beside him], and a light shone in the place where he was. And the angel gently smote Peter on the side and awakened him, saying, Get up quickly! And the chains fell off his hands.
13 And when he knocked at the gate of the porch, a maid named Rhoda came to answer.
14 And recognizing Peter’s voice, in her joy she failed to open the gate, but ran in and told the people that Peter was standing before the porch gate.
15 They said to her, You are crazy! But she persistently and strongly and confidently affirmed that it was the truth. They said, It is his angel!
16 But meanwhile Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the gate and saw him, they were amazed.
Right after James was murdered by the decree of King Herod, Peter was arrested and put in prison. The church was AWARE of what was happening and gathered TOGETHER in unity to pray for a supernatural deliverance regarding Peter. Peter had 4 sets of 4 soldiers guarding him… think about it… why would he have so much security unless they thought that he could potentially escape based on his history and all the supernatural signs, wonders and miracles that had happened, because of his trust in God… Peter was asleep in Prison, he was at rest…and an angel of the Lord came to deliver him. Peter thought that what he was seeing was a vision, but God supernaturally delivered him out of an impossible situation in the natural by using supernatural means. Because the church was aware of the situation, they united together and continues to fervently pray….although I am not sure they were totally convinced in the effectiveness of their prayers, because when Peter showed up they did not believe it was him! I believe that Peter learned how to “rest” in the midst of life’s storms, because he watched Jesus do it, he also saw Jesus calm the storm and he also walked on water (which is impossible, unless there is supernatural help) with Jesus… based on Peter’s previous experiences, victories and failures he was able to trust God in a way that many of us have never allowed ourselves to. I do not believe that Peter was surprised by his deliverance from the Lord, but I do believe that those praying for him were…what does that mean? When we are praying out the will of God over people, are minds are not always confident in the victory, but our Spirit man is.. and that is where are confidence in the Lord rests
It is important to not be a “lone soldier” trying to be victorious on our own…sometimes we feel as though we do not need the encouragement and prayer from people, because we do not want to weigh them down… but it all reality there is strength in numbers. I am not saying that we lay everything out on the table to every person, because that is just not wisdom… but when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with those we trust, whom we know will encourage us and stand with us in prayer we will absolutely see the victory that we are desiring…because when any two are gathered together in His name, praying anything according to His word, He hears us and it is given unto us. Also, when we are aware of what is going on we can unite together, because there is power in the prayer of faith! So when our victory comes, to what ever situation that we might be facing… let us not be surprised, because God is faithful to His Word and He is working on our behalf to cause us to walk in continuous victory!!!
Father, how inspiring is this testimony about Peter and Your hand stretched forth to deliver him! I thank you God, that because you are the same yesterday, today and forever you are more than able to stretch out your hand upon our situations. Peter’s situation looked absolutely impossible in the natural, but you used supernatural means to deliver him from the hand of his enemy. Lord you are in the business of delivering your children from every situation, because you are the way maker.. you are our healer, you are our provider, you are our restorer, you are our peace, our joy, our strength… God I declare victory right now over every one of our situations in the name of Jesus. You Word says that you are able to make all grace abound toward us in every situation… so right now we receive your grace and your supernatural favor upon our lives to see the victorious outcomes that we are standing on your word, your character and faithfulness for. We trust you God, there is none like You…
In the mighty name of Jesus, we receive right now complete victory. Amen, so be it!!
