Scripture: John 15:1-4

1I AM the True Vine, and My Father is the Vinedresser.

2Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit.

3You are cleansed and pruned already, because of the word which I have given you [the teachings I have discussed with you].

4Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.

I absolutely love these scripture simply because what God is saying here is that he is the true vine and as believers we are rooted in Him. A branch is connected to and grows off of the vine… and where there is no vine to be connected to there will be no fruit to be born. When we stay connected to the the vine, no matter what storm comes we will not be blown away because are deeply rooted in him as the vine. Naturally when we are gardening or taking care of the lawn we will cut down unwanted branches and prune areas that need to be improved so there can be better growth, and so the true beauty can be seen through all the unwanted branches. In our spiritual life that is what God does.. he knows exactly what we need, how we need it and when we need it. He knows what it is going to take to remove all the unwanted “branches” in our life for us to see the true beauty of who we are in Him and all that He has for us to walk out.

Going through the pruning process or allowing the Lord to cut off some unnecessary branches is not easy… but when we are willing to allow the Lord to do what is best for us at this time… it will be well worth it because later on the fruit will show for it! Just because God cuts off a branch that doesn’t mean that it is dead, it just means that there will be regrowth in due season and in due time. What does it meant to “abide”… it means that we are staying attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit… the Spirit of the living God on the inside of us. We do this by spending time in the Word and in prayer …  not because we have to out of religious duty, but because we simply want to know Him. The bible says to seek first the kingdom of heaven and all else will be added unto you. When our focus in on the Lord and His kingdom, we allow Him to do what he needs to do to make our lives more fruitful and to make a lasting mark on this generation! I encourage all of us to allow the Lord to cut off some branches and do some pruning so we can be even more effective and proactive in the kingdom of God in reaching the lost and raising up this generation!

Father, I thank you that your Word is true and that your Word is alive and living! I am asking God that you would open the eyes of our hearts to see where we need to allow you to cut off some branches for better regrowth in due season and also some areas that you need to prune to make even more beautiful so we can bear fruit in our lives and continue to bear even greater fruit. God I ask for strength for us to allow you to do so… it does not matter if it is easy or not, but rather than looking at the here and now help to us to see the benefit of obedience to you! You are so faithful Lord and I am so great-full for you perfect love! Amen… so be.. in the name of Jesus!
